Beauty Detox After CNY – Part I (Green Apple Lemongrass Detox)
Chinese New Year, the first thought that comes into mind would be the sweet goodies (or the ang baos!). After a week of eating too many naughty things (Bak Kwa, Pineys, crackers, Yu Sheng, I’ve decided to continue doing this detox at least once a week. I know I’d be vulnerable to the feasting, so I started this detox 5 weeks ago, every Sunday!
I don’t weigh myself (I don’t have a weigh at home) so I don’t know if I’ve lost any numbers off the scale. But instead of Beyonce’s excruciating 14-day Lemon Detox Diet (click!), I prefer a simple detox that is easy to follow & doesn’t change my routine (actually, as little things to do as possible. Ok fine I’m just lazy). So anyway, Mrs Charlie introduced me the
Green Apple Lemongrass Detox
This is all you need. Just throw them together in a little pot & boil! Low heat for about 30 minutes:
- 4 stalks Lemongrass
- 3 glasses water, preferably Alkaline (click!) – will talk more about Alkaline water next time
- 2 GREEN apples, quartered. Preferably organic (click!) (bought mine from Raffles City Marketplace, couldn’t find it in Bugis Coldstorage & some NTUCs. This shouldn’t be tough, which label sounds better; “organic” or “frequently sprayed with pesticides that might kill you”? If you insist on buying conventional ones, then at least carve the skin & cut out the core, which contain wax & pesticides)
Thailand’s favourite aroma, the lemongrass, naturally cleanses the colon, improves digestion, has anti-fungal & anti-bacterial properties. I’ve stopped eating apples for a while (they’re kinda filling), but an apple detox sounds great when it aims to give relief from constipation, diarrhea & reduce cholesterol. If I’d to choose between munching an apple (gives me more man jaws) or drink apple juice, I’d gladly take the latter. Easy.
Anyway, since apples are anti-cancer cleansing food, contain antioxidants, fruit flavonoids & contains more vitamin C (more so in greens than reds), this detox aims to give you more energy (really! try this instead of coffee), clearer skin, supple body with healthy calories, & are anti-inflammatory.
So far so good!

Someone sent me a similar recipe using 5 stalks of lemongrass for rejuvenation of knee cartilage. The drink is for adults only. Rather cryptic I know but any comments?
