Guess where I’m headed with this beautiful bouquet?
Yes, I was at Jai Thai’s East Coast beautiful opening. Easterners, rejoice! (The first outlet was in Jln Peminpin Bishan)
Like the sweet taste of a lover’s mouth- at once familiar and foreign. Be it sweet, spicy, sour, pungent or woody, Thai food spices up my life like the Sahara desert, & kind of make me feel spiced up after. Ok, I think I’m lacking vocab here- spicy, spices, spiced! But you know what I mean.
I’m sure everyone is familiar with Thai food. But have you tried Jai Thai? It always amazes me how little I spend here. Not because I order little, but because everything here is so cheap you don’t have to look at the prizes. Just order to your hearts content! A good feeling, isn’t it? Makes me feel like I’ve lots to spend. & have I mentioned they serve really good Thai food?
If you’ve a budget but crave for some decent, simple Thai food, head down to Jai Thai!
Want to know what I usually order?
A good detox drink which cleanses your kidney, liver, blader etc, this is an ideal drink to kick start your meal.
Mango Salad $5
Sweet, sour, salty & spicy, this salad is accented with fried shrimp & fresh with mangoe streds. I love the super crunch of shredded green mangoes & the brilliant shrimps.
Thai Spring Roll $4
This is ok for me. I think majority of us eat spring rolls since it’s almost tradition- we’ve them from young, right? Correct me if I’m wrong but I assume it’s an easy to prepare dish at most homes.
Prawn Cakes $1.50/piece
What can I not like about prawns? Fried golden brown on the outsie, bite through pieces of juicy prawn bits on the inside.
Pandan Chicken $5
Not a dish that I’d personally order but it’s Angel W’s favourite. & I quote her “I like it cause the chicken meat inside is tender & sweet even for meat-hater like me. The skin is delicious & crispy”.
Tang Hoon Seafood Salad $5
Sour & smooth, slurp up the tang hoon into your already salivating cavity. Another simple & good appetizer.
Fish Cakes $1.50/piece
Oh god, I love these tantalizing fish cakes so much! Herb-y, dense & pack a punch! Must try!
Fried Tang Hoon
Another must try at Jai Thai. So fresh you come back for more. Of course, I’m a very peppery person.
Clear Tomyam $5
I challenge you to this! I could barely finish my portion. Good, but too hot for me to handle. Burn baby, burn- I totally underestimated this. But hey, I love surprises. If you’re into badass hot soups (let them know your hotness) which rock you to Mars, try this!
You must try this! You’ll never go back to others again. Chunky sweet tapioca dressed with coconut milk. Perfect marriage. Angel W calls it my ‘tapioca love story’. So true! Make that never ending. Someday, when I’m a mother, I’ll learn to make this. Or when I’m really desperate for a boyfriend. The way to a man’s heart is through his tummy I suppose.
No-carb dishes specially prepared for us. Thank You Suchanna!
Beef Soup with Papaya
My favourite no-carb dish of the day! The beef balls are incredibly beefy & chewy! You’ve no doubt about this being homemade. & instead of noodles, papaya is used. Adds a unique crunch. Brilliant choice I say!
Phad Thai with Papaya
Papaya replaced the noodles for the obvoius healthier choice. This was too wet, I’d prefer it dry.
Fried Kang Kong
Non-salty, which is always mostly a good thing. I’m thankful I’m not eating vegetables marinated in salt & condiments.
Fried Rice with Basil
Using brown rice here, is a very good idea of losing weight, protecting against heart & breast disease, having a good source of fibre, getting antioxidant protection, & so much more.
What is brown rice? It’s a whole, natural grain whereby only the hull (outer layer) is removed. This way, it retains much more nutritional value of the rice & avoids unecessary loss of nutrients through processing.
We ended off our satisfying meal with a freshly-caught seabass! I could eat this entire fish alone. No kidding.
