My First Botox @ SL Clinic (Not A Secret!)

March 8, 2011

Compliments. I’ve been getting quite of lot of them from friends about how much better I look, & they’d absolutely no clue what I did (I got botox) till I raved to them about my latest respect & love for injections! I still can’t believe these tiny injections could fetch so much flattery but that’s how natural Dr Kelvin Chua made me look! Uh huh.

With a pretty significant string of parties: Pre-Christmas, Christmas, Post-Christmas, CNY (15 days), Valentine’s Day & other what nots staring in my face & my man jaws, I found myself sitting on the edge of Dr Kelvin Chua’s chair. Very frankly, I did not see this scene coming. I’ve always pictured myself aging gracefully, without the help of botox, fillers & what nots. Wrong! I got very tired of photoshopping my man jaws, so hey! Why not take a shot? So here I was, with the most honest & trust-worthy doctor I know.

Before I show you my before & after, did you know that an oval face of a small nose, slightly protruded lips & slightly expressed chin, is considered as most attractive today? A bachelorette got to look her best!

Characteristic features of the female “sexy face” in comparison to the “unsexy face”:

  • Suntanned skin (varies)
  • Narrower facial shape
  • Less fat
  • Fuller lips
  • Slightly bigger distance of eyes
  • Darker, narrower eye brows
  • More, longer and darker lashes
  • Higher cheek bones
  • Narrower nose
  • No eye rings
  • Thinner lids

Characteristics of the male “Sexy face” in the comparison to the “unsexy face”:

  • Browner skin
  • Narrower facial shape
  • Less fat
  • Fuller and more symmetrical lips
  • Darker eye brows
  • More and darker lashes
  • Upper half of the face broader in relation to the lower
  • Higher cheek bones
  • Prominent lower jaw
  • More prominent chin
  • No receding brows
  • Thinner lids
  • No wrinkles between nose and corner of the mouth

With botox, I’m expected to have a more ‘dainty’ face shape, which is what I’ve been dying to have (I’m ignoring those people who love my chiseled jaws, insane!) :

Number of shots: I was given 3 shots at each side of the jaws on my first visit & the same number of shots when I went back for a second visit a month later.

Precaution: Ask to be shown the botox bottle & see your doctor pull the stuff out from the bottle. Discuss with your doctor so that he/she can meet your expectations. I’ve heard my friends (who went to other doctors) who didn’t even see any difference. But Dr Chua is a PRO at this! Wait till you see my after pictures. Ace!

I’ve also heard from a nurse of a particular famous female doctor whose clinic in Orchard Road uses bogus botox. Yes, it’s wise to make sure the bottle is labeled botox, no matter how reputable your dermatologist or doctor seem. Dr Kelvin Chua showed me the bottles of botox used on me, automatically, which is a step that all doctors should take.

Pain factor: None! No kidding. I was scared for nothing. I’m a major wuss when it comes to pain. Botox is…(I’m even having difficulties trying to find a word to describe the pain & I’ve to go with Totally Painless!) not even like a pinch of an ant bite. Nope. Thank you, Dr Chua!

Downtime: Zerol! In fact, there wasn’t even bruising for me. The slight redness subsided within 1 minute. The entire procedure only took less than 5 minutes! There wasn’t any soreness too, I could eat, talk, suck, scream like my usual.

See what I mean? I didn’t even photoshop my jaws here.

Effects: 4-8 months, some individuals see  1 year.

It’s coming 4 months & I’m still extremely pleased with the believable results Dr Kelvin Chua has achieved on me, & if you ask me, whether botox is a friend or foe for people like me in the 20s? I say definitely more than friend!

Cost (varies): For my stubborn man jaws, the total was about $1,500. If it lasts for 1 year, it’ll be about $120/month. Hooray!

Believe me when I tell you I love botox. Are you listening? I love it!
